Hi there,
This month's idea: the curtain trick
If your curtain rod sits right on top of the window frame, try moving it up close to the ceiling and out past the frame on each side. The window looks bigger, the ceiling looks higher, and more daylight comes in. If you're renting, ask before making new holes.

Reader before-and-after
A reader refreshed a rental bedroom for under $200: a large secondhand rug, two thrifted lamps with warm bulbs, curtains hung high, and a gallery wall of family photos in frames from a yard sale, all painted black. Nothing permanent, and the deposit is safe.
Spend less: the "oops" shelf
Many paint counters sell mistinted paint at a big discount. If you're flexible on the exact shade, it's an easy way to paint a closet, a door or an accent wall for very little.
Happy refreshing,
